WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL.

How could I know who I am, let alone you, if I'm not constantly writing and rewriting the About page of my life? I don’t know, because I’ve been doing this since ~1995.

Hey, I’m Scott.

I grew up in rural Nebraska, and I’ve been on the internet longer than I’ve had next-door neighbors. Today I work from Providence and New York as a consultant, educator, and systems-minded design leader with deep experience in all things content.

(I’m also an artist, writer, and musician. You can find some of that stuff here.)

REAL TALK, REAL FUN.

I lead practical presentations and hands-on workshops for teams around the world. A few of my favorite topics: clarity, digital strategy, design, visual thinking, and the writing process.

I try to talk like a normal person—not a tech bro, thought leader, or motivational speaker—and fill my decks with ideas and inspiration, not text. There’s always something to apply as soon as you get back to your studio, desk, or board room.

UNAPOLOGETICALLY INTERESTED.

Hey, how does that work? How might it work differently? What do you do? How do you do it? Why do you do it that way?

I want to know! What can I say? I’m a big dang design nerd.

I love maps and models. I love design's history and its newest tools. I love craft and process, systems thinking and big-picture strategy. I love UX, IA, and all their many friends and relations. It’s the work I’ve been doing for 16+ years, and I’m not slowing down anytime soon.

NOT COMFORTABLE WITH AMBIGUITY.

My work as a consultant and educator focuses on improving craft skills and facilitating clear thinking. My primary tool? Disambiguation: clarifying distinctions in order to engage with concepts more effectively. (AKA: better outcomes from clearer thinking.)

As such, I believe that ambiguity is not weather to be tolerated like so much afternoon rain. Ambiguity is an ass to be kicked. Ready for a tag-team match? Drop me a note.
